Dr. Jonathan Gimbel D.O.M, Dipl.O.M.

Dr. Gimbel is a practitioner of Oriental medicine, and has been in practice since 1995. He is licensed in New Mexico . Dr. Gimbel is nationally board-certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology (Diplomat of Oriental Medicine) by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).  He earned a Master’s of Acupuncture from Northwest Institute of Oriental Medicine in 1994 and a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine (M.S.O.M.) from Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, NM, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Oriental Medicine. He opened Pinon Community Acupuncture in hopes of making acupuncture, particularly Japanese Meridian Acupuncture, available to those without access to health insurance in the larger Santa Fe Community.

In 1995 Dr. Gimbel traveled to Japan to further his studies with Japanese style acupuncture and associated arts apprenticing  with Yoshi Ikeda on Shodo -Shima Island. He was employed as an acupuncture superviser at Evergreen Treatment Center, in Seattle Washington from 1995-97, a busy drug and alcohol treatment center, where he would treat up to 60 people in a 5 hour shift. Dr. Gimbel is a member of the Toyohari Association of Japan and North America receiving his initial training certificate in 2000 and continues to train and assist the association to refine and deepen his acupuncture skills. He also has a long time passion and practice of Tai Chi and Qigong and is the current Qigong instructor at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center.

Dr. Gimbel has taught acupuncture and Oriental medical theory since 1995 and he is currently an Associate Professor of Oriental Medicine at Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, NM. Dr. Gimbel has been studying and teaching Japanese Meridian Therapy, which is a very gentle style of acupuncture, since 1990. He relies on the skills he learned from Japanese teachers (many of whom are blind and have a highly refined sense of touch) to provide very comfortable and effective treatments at Pinon Community Acupuncture.

Dr. Catherine Maxwell D.O.M

Cat is NCCAOM certified and a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociocultural anthropology from Northern Arizona and graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College Santa Fe with her Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization in 2022. She considers herself a lifelong student of the medicine, continuing to learn not only from each and every patient and their stories, but also from experienced practitioners at regular practices with the High Desert Hari Society.

Cat’s treatment approach in the community clinic is highly informed by Japanese Meridian Therapy and Five Element theory as well as Chinese channel therapeutics. Community acupuncture strongly resonates with Cat’s belief that treatments should be affordable and accessible to all patients regardless of their background, and that by sitting for treatment in a group setting, we help to heal each other together as a community. In her private practice, Cat mostly provides gentle Japanese style treatments.

In addition to continually improving her knowledge and application of acupuncture and herbs, Cat is passionate about travel, exploring and protecting the nature across New Mexico, and language, and is always looking for opportunities to practice and improve her Spanish.
